ZBrush also has a Best Preview Render (BPR) mode that does not need AAHalf and produces spectacular effects like SubSurface Scattering and ambient occlusion. See the BPR page or more information on this powerful feature.

AAHalf. The Antialiased Half Size button displays the document at half its size. You can also press CTRL+0 (zero) to perform this action. When the canvas is viewed at exactly half its size, ZBrush automatically antialiases the image to produce smoothly-rendered results without jagged lines.

Shelves are expandable areas that completely surround the canvas. They are usually prefaced with a side of the canvas, such as stating that, “The AAHalf button is located on the right shelf.” All four sides together are often referred to collectively, so it would also be accurate to say that, “The AAHalf button is located on the shelf.”

Notice the edges and the default doc size… Its essentially doubling the size of your document… and “AAHalf” is filling the canvas with the larger doc. You may get a little lag when modelling but it has never been enough to bother me… i prefer the cleaner view… but when rendering or sceengrabbing it will save you alot of hassle in ps.

You are misunderstanding the way the AAHalf option works. It is provided to give anti-aliasing for images that will be viewed at screen resolution; it is not necessary for images that will be printed. For those images the reduction in size from screen res (72 or 96 ppi) to print res (300 ppi) effectively introduces anti-aliasing.

The Best Preview Render (or BPR) will render a model in Edit mode using high quality anti-aliasing at the full document size. Use of the AAHalf button is not necessary when using this rendering mode.

Both are correct, with "one half" probably predominating in formal writing, and "half" predominating in speech and informal writing. Why this is correct is not precisely clear to me, except that informal speech often does not follow the same "rules" as formal speech.
