I work in the tech sector, where it's common practice for some to work well past the typical 5 or 6pm closing time of many industries. In my sector I've often encountered COB to indicate a deliverable due at the end of the business day (~5:00 / 6:00pm).

"a major two-day auction" "Two-day" is an adjective here, written as one word. "a major two days' auction"" two days' " is a possessive form ("an auction of two days"). First variant is more common to use.

If the speaker is taking "day" to mean the entire 24-hour period ending at midnight, "I have worked all day" could still make sense at 8:00 p.m., even if the speaker stopped working at 5:00 p.m. (or whenever).
