Instead find the software program that came with the scanner such as Epson Scan or HP Scan etc. and make a shortcut to that. When you click on that, the program will open the scanner and be able to scan after you select the settings.

Hopefully I can find my cd for the scanner installation (unless you have another suggestion). The other day Windows updated. Ever since then the computer looks weird. Also that's when the scanner icon must have gotten lost somehow.
