Southern Pacific had Baldwin build 14 Class GS-1's in 1930; 10 GS-1's were delivered to SP and 4 GS-1's were delivered to the Texas and New Orleans between August and October 1930. The GS-1's were not delivered with (and never received), the 'skyline casing' atop the boiler.

2018年10月19日 · In 1930, the SP designed a locomotive similar to those Mountains that had a very large firebox (90.4 sq ft) and a four wheel trailing truck to support it. Thus, evolved the Southern Pacific 4-8-4 which was designated Class GS (Golden State) by the SP.

2019年2月14日 · I’ve read that the Southern Pacific allocated 4 new GS-1 class 4-8-4s to it’s Texas & New Orleans subsidiary. I also found another source stating there were a total of 11 4-8-4s that operated as T&NO units, so I’m guessing they either sent them another batch (or batches) of new locomotives, or they just transferred some from the Pacific ...
